Around OakMeadows

Around Oak Meadows

We had a lovely cruise on the Crown Princess through the Alaskan Inside Passage.  When we left home, it was 100+ and the cool temperatures were so welcome! However, I had not packed enough warm clothes.  When we reached Skagway, I had to buy a warm pullover sweater.  We went to Glacier Bay to see what is left of the magnificent glaciers; sad to say, they are rapidly receding.  I can't say enough about the wonderful service on the Crown Princess.  The food was wonderful and we did not have one single meal that was less than delicious. We are already planning another cruise next year.

Grocery shopping, unpacking, and laundry took a full day.  But oh, how nice it is to be back home!

I took the baby quilt with me on the cruise and enjoyed hours of peaceful quilting and watching the ocean.  We were able to add a few birds to our life list--an albatross and a storm petrel. We also saw the whales.

Lots of time for reading. I finished Death in a Strange County by Donna Leon. I enjoy the Comissario Brunetti mysteries most when she is writing about Venice and Brunetti's family.  I found the mystery itself and its solution rather contrived. I'm currently reading All the Single Ladies by Dorothea Benton Frank. It is definitely light reading but quite enjoyable.  Joe and I are still reading 1776 by David McCullough; it is excellent.

I am watching Foyle's War Season 8 and it just doesn't hold my interest, the way the earlier seasons that took place during WW II.  These episodes set during the immediate postwar period are accurate but just not as interesting. IMHO.

All our barn swallows have left.  We had a total of 13 surviving babies this year.  We look forward to seeing them next spring.  The hummingbirds have not started their migration through yet but we have the feeder out just in case.

That's about all the news from OakMeadows.

Hi Florence..I am so glad that the cruise was good and sorry you didn't have enough warm clothes. I always over pack for everything. Good that the service and food were great too. I can imagine sitting watching the ocean and working on sometimes.. In my case it wouldn't be a quilt, but something.... Glad you are home safe and sound...Michelle
