Found this little creature crawling on Joe's chair under the big live oak and have no idea what it is.

  1. Florence..You are linked in correctly now. No problem. It is a caterpillar but it will take some searching to see if I can find out what species.

from Bugguide-Identifying a caterpillar can be a challenge. There are many insects that start life as larvae, and they do not all turn into butterflies or moths. Insects like craneflies, sawflies and beetles can have very caterpillar-like larvae.

  2. It appears to be some kind of caterpillar dressed up for a parade.

  5. Anni, it is a Rusty Tussock Moth caterpillar. It is a European transplant and I believe I read that it was related to the destructive Gypsy Moth.
